Zechariah Sermon Series: Sermon 43
8-03-25 – Jerry Mongello

Recap of Zechariah 14:9–15
Last Sunday, we covered Zechariah 14:9–15. Verse 9 affirms the Trinity and Jesus’ reign over the world:
“And the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be, ‘The LORD [is] one,’ and His name one.” (Zechariah 14:9 NKJV)
Verses 10–11 describe the rebuilding of Jerusalem:
“All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be raised up and inhabited in her place from Benjamin’s Gate to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses. The people shall dwell in it; and no longer shall there be utter destruction, but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.” (Zechariah 14:10–11 NKJV)
Verses 12–15 detail the fate of God’s enemies:
“And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths. It shall come to pass in that day that a great panic from the LORD will be among them…such also shall be the plague on all the animals in those camps.” (Zechariah 14:12–15 NKJV)
Worship in the Millennium (Zechariah 14:16–21)
The Feast of Tabernacles
“And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.” (Zechariah 14:16 NKJV)
-
- Only believers whose names are in the Lamb’s Book of Life will attend:
“All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” (Revelation 13:8 NKJV)
“Then anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:15 NKJV)
-
- Worship is annual and involves bowing to acknowledge the King of Kings:
“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9–11 NKJV)
Why Only the Feast of Tabernacles?
Other feasts have prophetic fulfillment:
- Passover – fulfilled in the death of Christ:
“Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.” (1 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV)
- Unleavened Bread – fulfilled in fellowship of believers:
“…let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” (1 Corinthians 5:8 NKJV)
- Firstfruits – fulfilled in the resurrection of Christ:
“Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.” (1 Corinthians 15:23 NKJV)
- Pentecost – fulfilled in the Church:
“…we were all baptized into one body…so also is Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:13 NKJV)
- Trumpets – fulfilled in the prophetic regathering of Israel:
“And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect…” (Matthew 24:31 NKJV)
- Day of Atonement – fulfilled in Israel’s conversion at Christ’s second advent:
“…then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son…” (Zechariah 12:10 NKJV)
- Feast of Tabernacles – the remaining feast, representing Israel’s journey from unbelief to faith:
“…all the nations which did not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles shall receive the plague…” (Zechariah 14:17–19 NKJV)
Consequences for Not Worshiping
- Nations that refuse to worship will experience drought and plagues:
“Whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem…on them there will be no rain.” (Zechariah 14:17 NKJV)
- Worship ensures obedience to Christ, who rules with a rod of iron:
“Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry…” (Psalm 2:11–12 NKJV)
Israel’s Holiness and the Temple in the Millennium
- Every pot, bowl, and horse bell will be engraved:
“In that day ‘HOLINESS TO THE LORD’ shall be engraved on the bells of the horses. The pots in the LORD’s house shall be like the bowls before the altar.” (Zechariah 14:20 NKJV)
- Spiritual purity will prevail; no Canaanites remain in the house of the Lord:
“Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to the LORD of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.” (Zechariah 14:21 NKJV)
- Zechariah 3 depicts the high priest Joshua being clothed with righteousness as a picture of Israel’s restored holiness:
“See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.” (Zechariah 3:4 NKJV)
Final Thoughts
The Millennium will be marked by worship, obedience, and holiness. Nations will recognize Christ as King, and Israel will fully serve as a high priestly nation, dwelling in the presence of God.
